Dark Granite Island
I have mentioned that it was common to use different materials on an island countertop than the rest of the kitchen countertops. In this photo the homeowner has elected to use a darker granite on the island.

This is a rustic alder kitchen we completed in 2002. The distressing is more visible in the last photo when you look at the upper doors.
This particular project went from a traditional paint grade style to a sleek contemporary kitchen.
There is more than one way to light up an island. This island is lit from underneath the countertop through the fluted tempered glass.

There are some creative ideas in this kitchen. The cabinet doors as the backsplash hide the lift up appliance garages and the legs under the island eating bar give it more of a table look.
